About The Position

The Head Start Teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment for children, managing classroom activities, and ensuring compliance with educational standards. This role involves assessing student progress, coordinating with parents, and implementing individualized curricula to meet the needs of all children, including those with special requirements. The teacher will also manage volunteer activities, maintain safety and cleanliness in the classroom, and adhere to Head Start policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Childhood Development/Early Childhood Education or related field, including six or more courses in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development.
  • Six years of Childhood Development Experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree, or a combination of an Associate's Degree in Childhood Development/Early Childhood Education and four years of related experience.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Obtain and keep current Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, manage, and organize the classroom to create a positive learning environment.
  • Assess and track student developmental progress and provide feedback to parents.
  • Coordinate and complete parent-teacher conferences and individual home visits.
  • Follow prescribed curriculum and prepare daily instructional activities/lesson plans.
  • Implement individualized curriculum for all children, including IEP/IFSP goals.
  • Ensure safety and adhere to all safety policies in alignment with Head Start licensing standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in the classroom and playground.
  • Submit reports and documentation for incidents and health checks in a timely manner.
  • Manage and coordinate volunteer activities, ensuring background checks are completed.
  • Encourage parents to complete required health screenings in a timely manner.
  • Maintain records of classroom activities and child development.
  • Manage student behavior in alignment with prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Center Director and CSS to ensure classroom initiatives are met.
  • Protect confidential information pertaining to staff, students, and families.
  • Schedule and organize time and materials for effective classroom management.
  • Integrate activities from all content areas into the classroom.
  • Complete child observations and retain documentation weekly or as instructed.
  • Maintain custodial duties in the classroom and Head Start Center.
  • Serve as a model for daily hygiene practices, such as brushing teeth.
  • Complete Point of Service and Family Style Meals.
