The Head Start Teacher Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Lead Teacher in delivering quality early childhood education to preschool-aged children. This position involves assisting in the planning and implementation of educational experiences that foster the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children in a safe and nurturing environment. The Teacher Assistant will also engage with families to promote their involvement in the educational process and ensure compliance with program standards.

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences for preschool-aged children.
  • Maintain professional communication and confidentiality regarding all records and information.
  • Adhere to operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist in the safe transportation of children and serve as a bus monitor when needed.
  • Support the Teacher in using assessment tools to evaluate children's developmental levels and create individualized educational plans.
  • Promote cultural diversity awareness and prepare lesson plans in collaboration with the Teacher.
  • Interact positively with parents and family members to encourage their participation in the program.
  • Serve as the Teacher in the absence of the regular Head Start Teacher.
  • Prepare and submit literacy activities quarterly and assist with classroom documentation.
  • Ensure the classroom meets cleanliness, health, and safety standards and arrange the physical environment appropriately.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities and integrate nutrition education into lesson plans.
  • Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required, or an Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, or enrollment in a CDA program.
  • Experience working with young children, including those with disabilities, in a preschool setting is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Record-keeping and computer skills are highly desired.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction techniques for preschool-aged children.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Experience with children with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with the DRDP Assessment Tool.
  • Skills in lesson planning and classroom management.
