About The Position

The Head Start Teacher Assistant is responsible for supporting the overall operation of the Head Start/Pre-K Counts classroom, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies. The role involves planning and coordinating activities to foster children's development across various domains, including social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The assistant will also substitute for the teacher when necessary and is required to travel to different classrooms within Allegheny County to meet program needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a CDA credential or equivalent certification, or enrollment in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
  • One year of experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
  • Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR clearances required prior to an offer.
  • Completion of School Personnel Health Record prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the educational, social, emotional, and physical development of children in the program.
  • Assist the teacher in facilitating activities that promote problem-solving skills and creativity.
  • Help children develop language skills for effective communication and social interactions.
  • Work with the teacher to maintain a healthy, clean, and safe classroom environment.
  • Develop and follow a positive routine and simple rules for the classroom.
  • Utilize web-based platforms for managing and tracking data related to children and families.
  • Establish positive relationships with families and encourage their participation in classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with team members across service areas for the benefit of children and families.
  • Attend and complete mandated trainings and implement learned strategies in the classroom.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
