About The Position

The Head Start Teacher Assistant is responsible for supporting the overall operation of the Head Start/Pre-K Counts classroom, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies. The role involves planning and coordinating activities to foster children's development across various domains, including social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The assistant will also substitute for the teacher when necessary and is required to travel to different classrooms in Allegheny County to meet program needs.

Requirements

• Minimum of a CDA credential or equivalent certification, or enrollment in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
• One year of experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
• Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR clearances required prior to an offer.
• Completion of School Personnel Health Record prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the educational, social, emotional, and physical development of children in the program.
• Assist the teacher in facilitating activities that promote problem-solving and creative expression.
• Help children develop language skills for effective communication and social interactions.
• Work with the teacher to maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
• Establish and follow a positive routine and rules understood by all children.
• Create and arrange materials to foster a conducive learning environment.
• Utilize web-based platforms for managing child and classroom data, including recordkeeping and documentation.
• Build positive relationships with families and encourage their participation in classroom activities.
• Collaborate with all service areas of Head Start/Pre-K Counts for the benefit of children and families.
• Attend and complete mandated trainings and implement learned strategies.
