Perform the duties of the Head Start Teacher Aide, including: assist APIA Head Start Teacher as requested to implement daily lesson plans; preparation and clean-up of activities, special projects, etc.; teach children appropriate health, dental, and other lessons as directed by the Lead Teacher; provide opportunities for children to develop self-mastery skills; provide safe environment for children by supervising them at all times, indoors and out; and use of appropriate discipline/guidance techniques, including redirection, acknowledgment of appropriate behavior, and setting reasonable limits. Maintain paperwork and files; conduct home visit/parent/teacher conferences. Provide routine required maintenance and upkeep to the Head Start building and outdoor area, appliances, furnace, and safety equipment. Maintain center and outdoor areas free of debris, unsafe equipment, unguarded heaters, and dangerous substances. Maintain documentation of for sanitation and Fire Marshall visits, prepare for sanitation and Fire Marshall inspections, and sanitation checklists. Pick up all materials shipped to Head Start, check invoices, and complete a yearly inventory with all staff. Report to the Lead Teacher daily to ensure a safe and secure environment for the 3-5 year old children in Head Start care.
