About The Position

The Head Start Associate Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive education program at the Site level that is developmentally appropriate and meets the individual needs of the children. This position involves the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with the standards set by the Merrillville Community School Corporation and the Indiana Department of Education. The role requires active participation with children, families, and other members of the teaching team, as well as assessing and addressing the needs of individual children. The Associate Teacher is expected to present a positive and professional image and effectively participate on committees and work teams as requested.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Early Childhood/Development is required.
• Must be able to work with children identified with special needs in a positive manner.
• Must be familiar with stress management and conflict resolution techniques.

Responsibilities

• To plan, organize, coordinate and implement a comprehensive education program at the Site level that is developmentally appropriate and meets the individual needs of the children.
• Responsible for the care and education of a group of children as a part of a teaching team.
• Plan and implement the curriculum in accordance with Merrillville Community School Corporation and Indiana Department of Education standards.
• Active participation with the children, families, and other members of the teaching team.
• Assess and address the needs of individual children.
• Present a positive and professional image.
• Effectively participate on committees and work teams as requested.
