About The Position

The position involves assisting classroom staff in implementing individualized goals and objectives for children identified as needing specialized assistance. The aide will observe and record specific behavioral data, communicate observations and progress with program staff, consultants, and parents, and ensure adherence to relevant standards and policies.

Requirements

• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment in a CDA program to be completed within 2 years.
• College degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, or enrollment in a degree program.
• Ability to monitor and supervise special needs children.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly desirable.
• Ability to respond to behavioral issues with appropriate management techniques.
• Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with special needs children.
• Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards.
• Familiarity with Louisiana licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom staff in implementing individualized goals for special needs children.
• Observe and record specific behavioral data and progress.
• Maintain open, professional relationships with staff and families.
• Adapt planned activities and materials for special needs children.
• Promote communication and socialization between special needs children and their peers.
• Perform caregiving activities such as feeding, toileting, and dressing.
• Implement behavior management techniques and monitor their effectiveness.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
• Serve as a second bus monitor for centers with transportation.
• Generate In-Kind contributions.
• Other duties as requested.
