About The Position

Perform the duties of the Head Start Teacher Aide, including: assist APIA Head Start Teacher as requested to implement daily lesson plans; preparation and clean up of activities, special projects, etc.; teach children appropriate health, dental, and other lessons as directed by the Lead Teacher; provide opportunities for children to develop self-mastery skills; provide safe environment for children by supervising them at all times, indoors and out; and use of appropriate discipline / guidance techniques, including redirection, acknowledgment of appropriate behavior, and setting reasonable limits. Maintain paperwork and files, conduct home visit/parent/teacher conferences.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma/ GED
  • physically/ mentally able to work with young children and their families
  • the willingness to be trained in the field of early childhood development and to engage in appropriate topical reading and individual work
  • Willing to achieve a Child Development Associate (CDA) preschool teaching credential within 1 year of hire
  • Upon date of hire, must provide documentation of current TB test and Hepatitis screening/vaccination status
  • pre-employment physical examination
  • criminal history background clearance and be willing to obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification

Nice To Haves

  • one year of experience working with groups of children as a child care provider in home/ center and/or volunteering in a Head Start program is preferred
