About The Position

The Lead Teacher leads a Head Start preschool classroom of 17 three-five year olds, and works to support family well-being. We have full day classrooms (one all-day class of 17 children) and part day classrooms (two half-day classes of 17-19 children each). The Lead Teacher directs staff in the classroom, and works with children, staff, parents and communities in a sensitive, confidential and supportive manner that honors individual differences, cultural & linguistic backgrounds, and current circumstances.

Requirements

  • An associate, baccalaureate, or advanced degree in child development or early childhood education, OR equivalent coursework.
  • Two years of experience working in a preschool classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Plan developmentally appropriate curriculum that addresses the needs of dual language learners and children with disabilities.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the classroom team.
  • Substitute in the classroom during desk time, when needed due to staffing shortages.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and required home visits.
  • Prioritize active safety and supervision practices.
