Under administrative direction, the Head Softball Coach provides strategic leadership for all aspects of the softball program, including coaching, instruction, recruitment, and operations. JOB SUMMARY: Under administrative supervision, this position administers all softball programs and courses for the College. Duties include: supervising professional/support/coaching staff; administering and coaching of the softball team including recruitment, retention, completion, placement of athletes, and fiscal management; and managing the IRSC summer and showcase program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Three (3) years of related collegiate or club coaching experience in softball; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • First aid, CPR and AED certification (or pass testing within one month of date of hire); certified in basic life support as a first responder preferred.
  • Member of the NFCA.
  • Meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) for instructors/coaches.
  • Knowledge of managing a softball team, recruiting student athletes, budgeting, and NJCAA and FCSAA rules.
  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.
  • Skill in organizing, leading others, and prioritizing.
  • Ability to work with elite collegiate student athletes.
  • Ability to formulate strategies, work independently as well as with others, be a team player, make decisions, and be self-motivated.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • certified in basic life support as a first responder preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the softball programs; manages the budget and related expenses.
  • Instructs, prepares, and grades courses in the softball program; develops, implements and modifies curriculum.
  • Assumes responsibilities in the development and implementation of all training for athletes in the program on a yearly basis including all conditioning and technical aspects involved with the sport of softball.
  • Coordinates and oversees all recruitment of athletes that may become future student-athletes in the softball program, including on/off campus visits.
  • Supervises the coaching and related staff for the softball coaching program; coaches collegiate athletes; mentors athletes and other coaches; oversees daily training functions including practices and strength training/conditioning; and conducts retention activities for athletes such as monitoring academics.
  • Assists coaching staff with monitoring Blackboard and student graduation progression; carries a caseload of student-athletes for academic monitoring; implements course success plans for athletes in conjunction with faculty members; creates a course of action with affected athlete in question; and disciplines as needed.
  • Coordinates and runs summer and showcase camp programs for the local community members within the sport of softball.
  • Ensures that game day management functions are completed for each contest.
  • Performs related fundraising activities.
  • Works fluctuating hours.
  • May perform driving duties; administers related student travel.
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Acting liaison between Athletic Department and Student Life to include areas such as New Student Orientation (NSO), First Year Experience and Community Outreach.
  • Game management duties for volleyball and basketball as assigned.
