About The Position

The Head of Study Room at the Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) is responsible for overseeing the public operations of the museum's Study Room, which provides access to its collections. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven knowledge of paper-based collections, including care, display, handling, housing, storage, and study.
  • Demonstrated skills supervising staff and managing services in a museum public services context.
  • Strong commitment to service and ability to work with a diverse community.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, especially in technology initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in art history, library science, museum studies, or a related subject is strongly preferred.
  • At least five years working in a museum environment.

Responsibilities

  • Steward the public operations of the museum's Study Room.
  • Provide leadership and direction for services and programs supporting the use of YCBA's collections.
  • Create a welcoming environment for all audiences.
  • Manage remote and in-person reference services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries about the YCBA's collections.
  • Collaborate with departments to support teaching and engagement programs.
  • Administer and optimize technology for Study Room functions.
  • Track and report Study Room statistics.
  • Manage the YCBA's Collections Seminar Room for classes and events.
  • Manage staff members operating the Study Room and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Prioritize collections-related work for Study Room staff, including cataloging and rehousing of collections.
