About The Position

GEMS International School Cairo (GISC) is looking for an outstanding Head of Secondary to join our existing team from August 2026. School Overview GEMS International School Cairo (GISC) is located in the heart of New Cairo. It is the first purpose-built flagship school for GEMS under the EEP umbrella in Egypt. GISC is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate continuum school offering PYP, MYP, and DP PreK through grade 12. GISC follows the American curriculum AERO standards and obtained ‘distinction status’ from its outstanding authorization visit from Cognia. GISC will be in its fifth year of operation in 2026–2027 where the school enrolment will reach full capacity at 1400 students. It is acknowledged for innovation and future-thinking technology programs, unique approaches to learning, and its warm culture with staff and community. About the role: The Head of Secondary is the educational leader for both Middle and High schools (Grades 6-12). The candidate will need to effectively develop positive relationships with staff, students, and parents while maintaining a high level of accountability. Significant time and effort will focus on implementing appropriate aspects of the school improvement plan. The Head of Secondary will need to actively promote new and innovative instructional practices, including effective use of technology as a tool for instruction and communication. Reports directly to the Head of School. The Head of Secondary will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Degree certification in addition to a certified teaching qualification, such as a valid US Teaching/leadership license or equivalent
  • Master’s in education
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience
  • 3+ years secondary leadership experience

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as Head of Secondary is preferred
  • International school experience within the IB is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the MYP and DP

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting and retaining best fit staff members
  • Providing leadership and training for coordinators and department heads
  • Supervising the evaluation of secondary staff members
  • Designing/facilitating professional development opportunities
  • Participating in the admissions process
  • Supporting staff and student wellbeing through curricular and extra-curricular programs
  • Assisting with all aspects of accreditation processes
