The Head of Project Engineering is a senior thought leadership role at GSK, responsible for influencing the strategic direction of project engineering on large capital projects. This position involves defining strategic direction in alignment with business goals, particularly in shaping and delivering GSK's digitisation and sustainability ambitions. The role requires a depth of technical knowledge across engineering and is recognized as an expert in at least one area of the Engineering function. The Head of Project Engineering reports to the VP of Global Capital Projects and is a core member of the GCP Leadership Team. The role includes engaging at a senior level to provide technical direction, mentoring employees, and leading a group of Senior Engineering Leaders and experts to meet enterprise needs. The position also drives adherence to Engineering Standards and the GSK Project Management Framework for project engineering within GCP, with accountability for capability development and deployment in capital projects over £10m.

  • Ensure the project engineering function is staffed and capable of supporting the GSK capital plan and fast-track needs.
  • Lead the project engineering group, directing multiple teams and associated project engineering staff.
  • Establish and manage key external arrangements to enhance project engineering capability.
  • Support the delivery strategy for projects with a focus on project engineering.
  • Develop and deliver an annual business and improvement plan to meet business demands while improving safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Represent projects on key strategy and steering teams and in GSC level meetings.
  • Ensure compliant delivery and direct assurance processes for safe, secure, and ethical practices.
  • Represent GSK and project engineering with external bodies at the highest level.
  • Understand the impact of cGMP on project design and delivery, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Degree in Engineering; ideally an advanced degree such as a master's in engineering, construction, or project management.
  • 15+ years of experience in design and delivery of high-tech life science projects.
  • Deep understanding of the capital project lifecycle from Design to Operation.
  • Direct experience in delivering complicated construction projects.
  • Understanding of the economics and commercial realities of construction and contracting.
  • Successful leadership of a similar function comprising project engineering directors and subject matter experts.
  • Experience directing multiple large engineering teams across geographies in a functional leadership role.
  • Direct experience leading engineering teams in global and diverse cultures.
