About The Position

Passionate about the Smart Cities space? Interested in solving problems with how people move? Perhaps this is the role for you! TransCore is tackling one of the most complex challenges in modern infrastructure: bridging physical, real-world edge data with high-volume, cloud-native financial transactions. We are seeking a Head of Platform Engineering to serve as both our chief technical architect and our organizational leader. >You are a 'player-coach'—possessing the systems-design brilliance of a Principal/Distinguished Engineer, combined with the drive to lead, mentor, and scale an engineering team from the ground up. You will own the technical roadmap, decoupling our legacy systems to build a greenfield, infrastructure-agnostic smart mobility platform. TransCore is uniquely positioned to have a huge impact in advancing smart cities & mobility, and this role is uniquely positioned to achieve this vision. Join TransCore as we shape the future of smart cities and transportation tech. Work arrangement: This may be a hybrid (in-office/remote) position. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate. Travel may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Platform Experience: You have successfully transitioned a product from a single application to a multi-tenant platform. You understand the difference between building a feature and building an SDK.
  • Payments & Fintech Expertise: You have deep experience with payment gateways, digital wallets, settlement ledgers, and PCI-DSS compliance. You understand the complexities of financial transaction processing.
  • Modern Tech Stack: You are an expert in cloud-native architectures (AWS/Azure/GCP), Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture (Kafka/RabbitMQ), and API standards (REST/GraphQL).
  • Hardware/Edge Fluency: You are comfortable managing the intersection of software and hardware. Experience with IoT, Edge Computing, or Telematics is a distinct advantage.
  • Agile Leadership: You know how to implement Agile best practices in a way that works for a small, fast-moving team without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with at least 4+ years in a leadership role (Director/VP level) managing cross-functional teams.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Track Record: Proven history of delivering high-volume, high-availability (99.99%) systems in regulated industries (Mobility, FinTech, Logistics, HealthTech).
  • Architecture: Strong background in "Zero to One" architectural initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science
  • Application of AI capabilities to improve workflow or deliver organizational efficiencies.
  • Knowledge of the mobility space or analogous industries is a plus.
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments with a focus on platform & SDK development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a diverse technical team, including Platform Architects, Backend Engineers, and DevOps, reporting to the business unit lead.
  • Architect the Platform (The "Core"): Lead the design and implementation of a modular, microservices-based backend. You will decouple our core transaction processing engine from our consumer applications, ensuring we can support multiple tenants and white-label partners.
  • Multi-Cloud & Hybrid Strategy: Architect a truly portable, containerized solution using Kubernetes and Golang. While Microsoft Azure is our primary environment, you must design the system to be infrastructure-agnostic, enabling seamless deployment across hybrid, multi-cloud, or on-premise environments to meet diverse agency requirements.
  • Lead & Mentor (Player-Coach): Manage and grow a lean, high-performing team of Engineers and Architects. In our current growth phase, you must be willing to roll up your sleeves, review code, and drive architectural decisions directly.
  • Bridge the Hardware/Cloud Gap: Oversee the "Laneside" engineering capabilities, ensuring our cloud platform ingests high-volume, real-time data from roadside sensors and gantries with minimal latency.
  • Drive API Strategy: Treat the Platform API as a product. Ensure we are building developer-friendly, well-documented APIs that allow our Consumer App teams to ship features rapidly without breaking the core.
  • Operational Excellence: Own the uptime, reliability, and security (PCI-DSS) of the platform. You will establish the DevOps culture and CI/CD pipelines necessary for frequent, safe releases.
