Invictus Academy is an independent public charter school located in El Cerrito and we are seeking a Head of People to join our team who believes deeply that the mission, model, and values at Invictus are driving improved educational outcomes for students. The Head of People plays an invaluable role in overseeing and coordinating all personnel related topics to ensure a high quality experience for all employees. The Head of People works closely with our Leadership Team and Back Office Support Providers. We are seeking a candidate who brings Human Resources knowledge, creativity, experience building relationships, and will take initiative to support our growing school. We are looking for a candidate who is highly reliable, can balance many responsibilities and is willing to go above and beyond as a member of the team. We are seeking an exceptional individual to execute the following essential job functions and professional responsibilities:

Requirements

  • Earned Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least three years of coaching and team development experience.
  • At least three years of K-12 school leadership or administration experience.
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check through the Department of Justice.
  • Obtain a negative TB reading prior to starting employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Educator or Administrator Credential holder.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, coordinates, and manages all aspects of recruitment, including development of application materials and pipeline, screening, interviews, reference checks, and offers
  • Generate new recruitment avenues, especially to support having a diverse staff
  • Develops and oversees effective onboarding and new staff programming
  • Write job descriptions, design and monitor staff modeling (compensation and classification)
  • Maintains systems for timely and accurate response to internal and external data requests, including on-site position control
  • Primary point of contact with back office provider on all applicable services provided, including payroll, benefits, leave administration, workers compensation
  • Support all aspects of employee evaluation and personnel management
  • Partner with managers to provide consultation and coaching related to progressive discipline practices
  • Define and refine employee policies and practices, including staff handbook
  • Implement systems solutions as organization grows to improve efficiencies
  • Engage in strategic planning for quality improvements, Charter Authorization, and decision making
  • Provide annual professional development training to ensure employee policy adherence and understanding
  • Holds responsibility for oversight of general compliance across all areas of school business operations, including serving as point of contact and liaison for both external constituencies and internal school leads
  • Ensures relevant compliance, reporting, and other operational deadlines are met
  • Maintain and manage access to all compliance systems
  • Responsible for development, updating, and annual evaluation of Credentialing Plan
  • Provide on-site follow up for teacher credentialing paperwork
  • Support existing grants and seek additional partnership opportunities for teacher credentialing pathways
  • Supports the Executive Director in ensuring that school policies are current and legally compliant
  • Supports administration of Employee Surveys, monitoring benchmarks for improvement
  • Establishes and upholds channels for employees to address and resolve workplace challenges
  • Collaborate with school leadership to develop a culture that supports and recognizes diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Collaborate with school leadership to plan events, activities, and other strategies to develop a positive and sustainable staff culture
  • Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance in order to perform essential functions of the role.
  • Collaborate with staff and leadership to continuously improve practices and address student needs effectively.
  • Foster open and respectful communication, offering and receiving constructive feedback to enhance personal and team performance.
  • Set and hold high expectations for academics and behavior.
  • Develop trusting, authentic relationships with students and their families.
  • Create and maintain a joyful, safe, structured, and engaging school and classroom culture.
  • Encourage students and teachers to take risks and learn from their mistakes and create opportunities for students to leverage the power of their voice.
  • Supervise and engage with students in-person to ensure student safety and learning.
  • Uphold and model core values, including purpose, perseverance, productivity, growth mindset, integrity, leadership, joy, gratitude, mindfulness, and kindness.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Participate in the performance evaluation process, which is based on adherence to the outlined responsibilities and qualifications.
