The Head of Metadata Services at the D'Angelo Law Library is a pivotal role that oversees all aspects of metadata management, ensuring the effective creation, maintenance, and accessibility of library resources across various formats and languages. Reporting to the Associate Director for Collection Services, this position is responsible for managing the metadata needs of the library, which plays a crucial role in supporting the academic and scholarly success of the University of Chicago and its Law School community. The Head of Metadata Services will also oversee the processes related to the Law School's institutional repository, Chicago Unbound, ensuring that materials are accurately cataloged and easily discoverable by users. In this role, the Head of Metadata Services will supervise a team that includes one librarian, two full-time metadata assistants, and student employees. This involves organizing and distributing workflows to optimize operational efficiency, as well as providing training and evaluation for staff members. The Head will collaborate closely with the Associate Director to set goals, establish priorities, and manage projects that align with the library's objectives. Additionally, the position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards in cataloging and classification, including performing original cataloging work and reviewing the quality of both original and copy cataloging efforts. The D'Angelo Law Library is recognized for its exceptional collections and resources, which are essential for legal research and interdisciplinary studies. The library occupies a prominent space within the Law School's Laird Bell Quadrangle and is dedicated to fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture. The Head of Metadata Services will play a key role in ensuring that the library continues to provide superior services and resources to its community, while also staying current with metadata standards and best practices relevant to law school libraries.
