Head of Finance

Tin CanSeattle, WA

About The Position

Tin Can is building a safer, simpler way for kids to connect — without smartphones. We're creating screen-free, delightful devices and services that let families call the people who matter most, free from the noise of today's digital world. We're building a bold, authentic, nostalgic, and kinda quirky brand that resonates with folks who want something simpler & better for their kids than the tech-infused lives we're currently living (and who have a sense of humor about it). As we gear up to scale to thousands of families, we're ready to bring on a finance leader to help make it happen. We're looking for a Head of Finance to own the finance function at Tin Can as we enter our next phase of growth. You'll report directly to the CEO and serve as the company's primary finance partner — shaping how we plan, invest, and make decisions with our resources. This role exists because we've outgrown having finance led part-time by a co-founder. You'll inherit a solid operational foundation —a team with two experienced financial operators, clean books, GAAP accounting, established banking relationships, and state tax compliance — and your job is to build the planning, forecasting, and decision-support layer on top of it that can scale as our business grows. You'll manage a small team: a Controller who owns the books and a Finance Operations lead who runs treasury, bank reporting, and all the “messy middle” work that keeps the business running. You don't need to have done everything before, but you do need to be comfortable building financial infrastructure at a company that's still figuring some things out, and translating numbers into clear guidance for a founding team that moves fast.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years in finance, with meaningful time in FP&A or strategic finance roles — ideally at a early- or growth-stage DTC or e-commerce company.
  • Experience with Supply Chain and Supply Chain planning from a Finance perspective
  • You've built or rebuilt a budgeting and forecasting process and know what good looks like
  • Strong financial modeling skills — you can build clean, trustworthy models, not just inherited spreadsheets. Bonus if you’ve worked in Abacum or similar FP&A tool suite
  • Experience with S&OP or cross-functional planning processes
  • Experience reporting to a CEO or C-suite and translating numbers into decisions
  • Clear, concise communicator who can hold their own in a room with non-finance leaders
  • Comfortable managing a small team and working hands-on — this is not a "manage from a distance" role
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach and genuine interest in improving how the team works

Responsibilities

  • Own the annual budget, rebudgeting cycles, and all flavors of financial modeling
  • Build and maintain forecasting, scenario planning, and financial risk analysis
  • Own forward-looking cash flow forecasting and fundraising readiness
  • Own, deliver and maintain financial reporting to internal and external audiences—from the board & investors to sharing updates with the whole team in all-hands meetings
  • Support new market expansion
  • Run the S&OP process in coordination with our Finance Operations lead and our Operations team
  • Lead headcount and OpEx planning in partnership with the founding and executive team
  • Manage and develop the Controller and Finance Operations lead
  • Set priorities and cadence for the finance team
  • Serve as the Founders’ go-to finance partner

Benefits

  • We're building tech that protects childhood: We're on a quest to give kids a more analog childhood — one with real conversations, real connection, and way less screen time. This is a rare opportunity to build something that truly matters.
  • You'll shape how we grow: This isn't a keep-the-lights-on finance role. You'll directly influence where we invest, how we scale, and what tradeoffs we make — with a seat at the table from day one.
  • Small, high-trust team: Every company says "team," but at Tin Can it means something different. We're a small, mission-driven group that genuinely has each other's backs — professionally and personally. Your ideas and instincts matter from day one.
  • Room to build, not just maintain: You'll walk into a solid operational foundation and have the space and mandate to build the strategic finance layer the company needs. If you like starting from a blank page, this is your role.
  • If you're excited by the idea of owning finance at a company that's scaling something genuinely meaningful — and you want to build the function, not just run it — please reach out. We can't wait to meet someone who's ready to jump in.
