Responsibilities

  • Lead and support engineering staff developing a high performance team.
  • Create and implement engineering performance benchmarking tools and operational evaluation processes.
  • Hiring and employee development.
  • Monitor ongoing performance and conduct evaluation processes of engineering/maintenance teams.
  • Contribute to establishing and refining work quality, cultural initiatives and best practices to achieve desired benchmarks as a team.
  • Provide technical guidance, expertise and leadership to the portfolio for all engineering related items such as troubleshooting equipment failures, root cause analysis, new equipment specifications, sustainability, building operation standardization and best practices.
  • Work with chief engineers to develop annual budgets as well as capital planning for the years ahead.
  • Provide guidance on execution of capital improvement projects.
  • Identify and implement preventative maintenance and energy reduction strategies to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations within the portfolio.
  • Create and audit implementation of portfolio wide engineering operational standards, procedures and training to ensure consistency across the portfolio.
  • Manage consultants to oversee life science operation requirements, client questions, regulatory mandates and annual audits.
  • Provide guidance and direction as needed on management of existing vendors and explore vendor relationships that can be leveraged across the portfolio for increased consistency and quality of service.
  • Identify and recommend technology upgrades to improve building performance.
  • Ensure building systems meet regulatory compliance and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Previous exposure to multi-building portfolio or campus environment, preferred.
  • Trade school education, union training, military service or college is desirable.
  • 10+ years of experience including knowledge of building systems, mechanical/electrical system, architectural, maintenance and instrumentation/automation.
  • Outstanding knowledge of a wide variety of utility management, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems in commercial properties.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents and provide design engineering teams with relevant feedback from the operator's perspective.
  • Familiarity with arc-flash, OSHA and NFPA regulations.
  • HVAC, Waste Water, or electrical License preferred.
