About The Position

Central is looking for a founding member to help scale its engineering organization from a small, founder-led group to a 20+ person team. This role involves recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional engineers and leaders, establishing a world-class engineering culture, driving execution at scale, and partnering cross-functionally with other teams to align engineering with business goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in building and scaling engineering teams, particularly in a remote environment, and will be responsible for defining roles, career paths, and structures that facilitate growth while maintaining quality and velocity.

Requirements

  • Experience scaling engineering teams from small to 20+.
  • Proven ability to build distributed teams that feel connected, productive, and high-trust.
  • Successful track record of hiring top engineers and managers.
  • Ability to tell a compelling story of mission, impact, and culture to attract candidates.
  • Strong standards for cultural alignment and ensuring engineering is a place for high-quality work.
  • Skilled at translating vision into clear priorities and aligning teams.
  • Experience shipping big projects quickly in a startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Grow Central’s engineering org from a small, founder-led group to a 20+ person team.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineers and leaders who raise the bar.
  • Define and model the values, rituals, and practices that make Central’s engineering org world-class.
  • Build a strong, cohesive culture across a fully remote team.
  • Ensure the team consistently delivers ambitious projects quickly and reliably.
  • Create processes that enable speed, clarity, and accountability as headcount grows.
  • Mentor engineers into tech leads and managers.
  • Build a leadership bench that can own domains and drive execution as the org expands.
  • Work closely with the founders, product, design, and operations to ensure engineering is aligned with business goals and delivering customer impact.
  • Define roles, career paths, and structures that let us scale smoothly to 20+ engineers while maintaining velocity and quality.
