The Head of Digital Strategies and Services for Archives and Special Collections at Harvard College Library is a leadership role focused on advancing digital initiatives to enhance user engagement and access to archives and special collections. This position involves managing a team dedicated to digitization, stewardship of born-digital content, and metadata support, while collaborating across various departments within Harvard Library. The role aims to create a user-focused approach to access and discovery, leveraging innovative technologies and sustainable practices.

  • Lead and manage a team of 7 FTE, overseeing day-to-day operations including digitization and metadata services.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital strategy and roadmap for Technical Services for Archives and Special Collections.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize services and communicate project statuses.
  • Oversee digitization initiatives to enhance access to archives and special collections, focusing on diverse narratives.
  • Establish infrastructure for stewarding born-digital content, providing access in both physical and virtual environments.
  • Partner with colleagues to create an interoperable environment for access and discovery systems.
  • Participate in working groups and professional organizations to stay updated on trends and best practices.
  • Master's degree in Library Science, Archives Management, or a related field.
  • 5 or more years of professional experience with digital projects, collections, or services.
  • 2 or more years of experience managing and supporting staff.
  • Expertise in library and archives metadata standards and systems interoperability.
  • Passion for enabling access to cultural heritage collections through emerging technologies.
  • Strong project management experience and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racism.
