Head of Design

About The Position

k-ID has successfully built the "hard stuff" - the global compliance infrastructure (CDK) used by some of the world’s biggest game and app publishers. Now, we are entering a phase where design is no longer just about utility; it is about defining the design DNA and identity of the company. We are looking for a Head of Design to be the architect of our entire visual and interactive ecosystem. This is a "Player-Coach" role for a craft-obsessed leader who can bridge the gap between rigorous B2B developer tools, high-trust consumer experiences, and strategic corporate narrative. You won't just oversee the design process; you will lead from the front, setting the standard for our pixels, motion, and voice. You will own the design roadmap for three distinct verticals: Developer Experience (making complex compliance dashboards feel like modern SaaS), Consumer Trust (making age verification feel magical, not bureaucratic), and Corporate Narrative (visualizing company strategy). This is a rare opportunity to build the "k-ID Aesthetic" from the ground up and define how safety looks and feels for the internet.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of Design Experience: A proven track record in Product Design, UI/UX, or Brand Design at product-led technology companies.
  • The "Unicorn" Portfolio: A body of work that demonstrates mastery of both complex B2B systems (Information Architecture, Dashboards) and consumer polish (Visual Design, Typography, Delight).
  • Strategic Storytelling: Experience designing high-stakes corporate narratives (e.g., vision decks, brand guidelines) that influence company strategy.
  • High-Fidelity Craft: You are "full stack" in design - comfortable jumping into Figma to fix a vector, tweak a bezier curve, or refine a motion prototype.
  • Experience Leading Designers: You have hired, managed, and mentored designers, but have maintained your own hands-on skills.
  • Strong Communication: Ability to articulate design rationale to engineers, product managers, and executives without relying on jargon.

Nice To Haves

  • DevTools / Infrastructure Experience: You have designed products for technical audiences (APIs, Cloud Consoles, SDKs).
  • Motion Design Proficiency: You understand how to use tools like Rive, After Effects, or ProtoPie to create kinetic interfaces that reduce cognitive load.
  • Brand Evolution: Experience taking a Series A/B company through a major rebrand or visual evolution.
  • "0 to 1" & "1 to Scale" Context: Comfort operating across both early-stage ambiguity and scaled company processes.

Responsibilities

  • Architect the Global Design System: Build and maintain a scalable design language (tokens, components, patterns) that ensures coherence across our distinct B2B dashboards, consumer-facing modals, and marketing surfaces.
  • Lead the "All Up" Redesign: Spearhead the complete visual overhaul of k-ID.com and our core product surfaces. You will audit our current state and ship a unified visual identity that signals "World Class" to both enterprise partners and families.
  • Own Corporate Narrative & Visual Storytelling: Partner directly with the Leadership to translate abstract strategy into compelling visual artifacts. You will own the high-fidelity design of critical internal assets, pitch decks, and vision materials that align the company and investors.
  • Design the Developer Experience (B2B): Own the UX for our core infrastructure products (Compliance Studio, CDK). You will take complex regulatory logic and distill it into elegant, intuitive interfaces that developers love to use.
  • Elevate Consumer Trust: Design the interactions for AgeKey and our verification protocols. You will use motion, micro-interactions, and clear UX writing to turn high-friction compliance steps into seamless, trustworthy moments.
  • Lead & Mentor from the Front: Manage our high-output design team while remaining hands-on. You will set the rhythm of critiques, instill a culture of high craft, and execute on critical design tasks yourself during our rapid scaling phase.
