The Position PetVet365’s growth is driven by building long-term, joint-venture partnerships with growth-minded veterinarians in targeted geographies. These partners include market-level owners and hospital-level owners. The Head of Business Development will drive this growth strategy by proactively sourcing, developing, and stewarding long-term relationships with high-potential veterinary market leaders, each capable of eventually leading at least 3-5+ de-novo hospitals, while supporting them in finding hospital-level partners to grow their market. This role carries clear accountability for growth, with responsibility for securing a minimum of three new veterinary market leaders annually. By building these relationships, this role will also be instrumental in shaping and executing market growth strategies, both within existing markets and in future target markets, ensuring sufficient partnership development to enable strategic expansion. This is a senior-level, reporting to the CEO, yet hands-on role in a growth-stage company, perfect for someone who enjoys building from the ground up and sees relationship development as a core strategic advantage. You will serve as a primary external ambassador for PetVet365, building trusted relationships with anyone in the veterinary community who can help identify promising veterinarians to become partner owners. Our partner roles are true economic partnerships, with shared economic risks and rewards. The Head of Business Development must deeply understand these arrangements and effectively communicate them to candidates. They will also serve as the relationship liaison throughout our engagement with a candidate until they open their first hospital, skillfully engaging key senior leaders throughout the process. PetVet365 operates with a lean team and an intentionally collaborative culture. This role will interact with all areas of the organization, with a particularly high degree of coordination and alignment with our broader veterinary recruiting team, real estate, marketing, and operations teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in veterinary business development
  • 10+ years total in the veterinary industry, preferably in other sales or partnership roles
  • Additional experience in business development is a plus
  • Proven success in a scaling business
  • Demonstrated success in building partnerships and closing deals
  • Proven ability to build an active talent pipeline across the industry
  • Strong executive presence and ability to build trust with doctors and operators
  • Demonstrated creativity and adaptability to generate results
  • Willingness to work hands-on and develop the necessary tools and materials needed to be successful in this role
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and able to operate in a fast-paced environment with the ability to identify and act on new opportunities and relationships
  • Experience and ability to lead a high-performing team
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred; solid foundation in finance required
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proven experience supporting expanding veterinary practices
  • Passion for veterinary medicine and creating financial opportunities for veterinarians
  • Regular travel commitments to develop target markets, offer support to current markets, build industry relationships, meet with prospects, and attend team meetings.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others online or telephonically.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Responsibilities

  • Close Partnership Arrangements: Successfully sign at least 3 highly qualified market-level partner owners per year and support all market-level partner owners in signing hospital-level partner owners for each new hospital. Additionally, support current markets with recruitment of veterinary talent at the local level, which may include open ownership opportunities or Associate doctor openings.
  • Recruiting Team Coordination: Coordinate with the two-person recruiting team to ensure consistent sourcing of high-quality veterinary talent and partner prospects, establishing clear conversion metrics, coordinating tools and resources, and aligning recruiting strategies with annual market-level recruitment goals.
  • Lead Generation & Relationship Development: Build and maintain strong relationships with veterinarians, industry partners, vendors, internal employees, and community stakeholders to generate veterinary leads.
  • Pipeline Development: Establish PetVet365 as a top destination for veterinary entrepreneurs and the veterinary leadership community, while building a robust talent pipeline. Cultivate relationships with veterinarians interested in partnership, ownership, or clinical leadership opportunities through in-person meetings, meals, site visits, and industry events to build trust and long-term alignment.
  • Facilitate Market Growth Strategy and Execution: Partner with the CEO and VP of Real Estate to understand targeted growth markets and growth areas within existing markets. Develop market-specific strategies for finding veterinary partners and collaborate with operations to understand when a market-leader is ready for further expansion. Spearhead market development calls with internal stakeholders and market owners to establish growth plans and ensure the business stays on track to fulfill those plans.
  • Local Market Outreach & Events: Plan, coordinate, and execute local outreach initiatives, community events, and targeted marketing efforts to support awareness and partnership development.
  • Industry Presence & Networking: Actively participate in veterinary conferences, trade shows, and local industry events, representing PetVet365 and identifying new partnerships and market development opportunities.
  • Value Proposition Communication: Clearly and persuasively communicate PetVet365’s partnership-focused value proposition to veterinarians, vendors, referral partners, and other industry professionals.
