About The Position

At Weave, the mission is to evolve how therapeutic knowledge is captured, transformed, and communicated throughout drug development by equipping human experts with AI instruments. The Weave Platform streamlines regulatory workflows by intelligently, creatively, and effectively infusing every step with AI, aiming to design and build the AI workbench for the entire therapeutic lifecycle. The Head of Applied AI will manage and lead the Applied AI team, focusing on people leadership, maintaining a healthy working environment, planning long-term architecture initiatives, ensuring a high bar of excellence, and growing the team. This role is responsible for AI architecture and personnel decisions, driving architectural direction, roadmap execution, and supporting the technical and personal development of the team. The position reports directly to the Head of Engineering. The charter of the Applied AI team is to develop and maintain a deep understanding of LLMs and their derivatives (e.g., agents, RAG) in order to build, evaluate, and deploy AI features that are valuable, controllable, and trustworthy within the Weave platform. Technical leaders at Weave are expected to maintain hands-on capacity through bug fixes, pull request reviews, or healthy debate of technical decisions, staying technical while empowering their team.

Requirements

• Has worked at an early-stage, product-based startup before (<50 people)
• Rigorous analytical capabilities derived from experience or education (ideally both)
• Experience building production software with LLMs-in-the-loop
• Experience building B2B software in regulated industries and/or for enterprise customers
• Experience leading with a data-first mindset
• Experience experimenting and implementing emerging frameworks, practices and standards with LLMs
• Direct and candid with leadership, peers, and direct reports
• Experience mentoring and growing employees
• Experience as an architect - proven ability to design and implement robust and scalable systems with flexible and scalable UI that meets future needs
• Bias to action and speed without compromising rigor

• Set the bar for analytical rigor, evidence-based decisions, and meaningful understanding of LLMs
• Plan and execute on AI architectural investments in coordination with Product and Technical Leadership
• Foster a culture of shipping compelling AI features to customers rapidly and routinely
• Develop and maintain quality standards that grow and preserve customer trust
• Ensure the Weave platform remains at the leading edge of AI technologies
• Hire, manage, and retain extraordinary AI Engineers and Applied Scientists
• Maintain a healthy, productive working environment and a high-performing team
