About The Position

The ideal Head of Accounting candidate will have 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership in an MGA, brokerage, or insurance-related firm. This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer and is available to work remotely or in a state where Players Health currently has employees, unless approved otherwise. Players Health is a remote-first distributed workforce. Travel may be required for team collaboration, training, and development. The Head of Accounting role has a compensation range of $200,000-$225,000, depending on skills and experience. You will join an organization going through significant growth as well as digital transformation. Instill a mindset of ownership and accountability with all managers and team members, providing a “playbook” for best practices – defining expectations to meet the vision and strategy for growth. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA certification required, including compliance with continuing education requirements
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership roles in an MGA, brokerage, or insurance-related organization
  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP)
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a remote-first environment
  • Hands-on experience with insurance-specific accounting operations, including premiums, commissions, trust accounts, and bordereaux
  • Proficiency with modern accounting platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities across multiple entities
  • Oversee preparation of GAAP financial statements, management reports, and board packages
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling in partnership with FP&A
  • Provide financial insights to executive leadership to inform strategy
  • Personify the tone at the top and demonstrate Players Health’s commitment to being honest and ethical
  • Enhance and maintain strong, scalable system of internal controls, consistent with the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) framework
  • Supervise general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations
  • Oversee premium accounting, trust account reconciliations, and producer commission processing
  • Manage team performance, hiring, and ongoing training
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors
  • Ensure compliance with financial covenants, trust account rules, and state-level regulatory requirements
  • Maintain knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) to support carrier reporting, bordereaux accuracy, and MGA obligations
  • Contribute to system implementations, automation, and process improvements
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Occasional travel for team engagement, collaboration, or events
