About The Position

The Head Novice Coach could be a great opportunity for you if you enjoy working with youth to build confidence, develop and fine-tune skills, and create a fun team-oriented environment. About the job: Provide leadership and supervision for Novice Swim Team instructional programs while also serving in a front line lead role. A day in the life: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Supervises Novice Swim program ensuring program standards are maintained Provides leadership, expertise and support to Novice Swim staff which may include training, mentoring, directing and assigning work. May assist Supervisor in hiring and evaluating staff. Assists Supervisor in developing, planning and scheduling programs. Oversees facility operations during assigned shifts; opens and closes facility; ensures that health and safety standards are maintained; oversees the operation and care of equipment and supplies, addresses maintenance issues. Ensures the inclusion of all participants, adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities and working with Therapeutic Recreation staff as needed. Attends supervisory and planning meetings. Prepares necessary materials. Provides for safety of participants and staff, including implementing risk management practices. Oversees the operation and care of equipment, supplies Addresses public questions and concerns regarding facilities and programs in a positive and constructive manner. Serves as the on-site lead of the Emergency Action Plan, managing response according protocols. Purchases supplies; submits receipts and documentation. Maintains required records and reports. Acts as a Mandatory Reports; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.

Requirements

  • Strong Knowledge of: Learning development, stroke technique, water safety, program levels and teaching methods, practices and progressions.
  • Strong personal swimming skills.
  • Strict adherence to safety guidelines related to assignment.
  • Effective supervision and customer service best practices; and Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures for assignment.
  • Skill and Ability to: Demonstrate leadership, organizational, planning and problem solving skills;
  • Lead, motivate and direct others;
  • Exercise initiative and independent decision making;
  • Demonstrate a high level of competency and expertise in program area;
  • Actively participate in all activities
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills

  • Operate computer programs as well as staying current with new programs and operate common office equipment; and
  • Work independently with minimum direction while also working as part of a team and collaborating with others.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; college coursework with emphasis in a swimming/fitness related field preferred; AND One (1) year of experience in area of responsibility and/or performing similar tasks; OR Any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or American Swim Coaches Association Certification Level 1.
