About The Position

The Head Mechanic, under the supervisor of the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. This program includes the repair of broken or failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment and placing order for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English preferred
  • Knowledge of computers and ability to process work tickets.
  • Mechanical or technical experience in building maintenance is heavily preferred
  • Customer service experience is required; all technicians must be able and willing to interact with guests.
  • 3-5 years of mechanical experience required
  • Detail-oriented and thorough
  • Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests
  • Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant, friendly way
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

  • Working knowledge of maintenance equipment, vehicles, and automotive
  • Skilled in the use of a wide variety of tools and equipment to perform mechanical repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair or preventative maintenance solutions
  • Frequent bending, standing, stopping, walking, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of all golf course, grounds, and maintenance equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in diesel, electric, and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment, Diagnose and repair Tier 4 engines, hydraulic systems, high-pressure pumps and valves, steering systems, fuel systems, starters, generators, brakes, and electrical components
  • Disassemble, overhaul, rebuild engines and motors; perform welding and limited machine as required
  • Sharpen mower blades, grind reels and bed knives; adjust mowers to Superintendent’s standards
  • Perform emergency equipment repairs in the field as needed to support golf course operations
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to minimize equipment downtime and maximize staff productivity
  • Prioritize repair and maintenance activities in coordination with golf course operation needs
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of equipment conditions, repairs, preventative maintenance, parts inventory, and repair costs
  • Purchase parts, materials, and replacement supplies; maintain adequate inventory levels of parts, tools, and supplies
  • Maintain a clean organized, and safe maintenance facility and work environment, both inside and outside
  • Assist with repair and maintenance of buildings and facilities within the maintenance areas as needed
  • Spot check equipment performance in the field and oversee servicing of equipment in the absence of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent when required
  • Work within established budgets and assist in cost control measures related to equipment maintenance
  • Assis the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
