About The Position

The Head Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overall management of the golf course maintenance fleet. This position ensures all equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and at peak performance to support daily course conditioning goals. The Head Mechanic works closely with the Superintendent to uphold high standards of quality, safety, and organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a golf course mechanic or similar role
  • Technical training in small engine repair, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diesel/gas engines preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of turf equipment brands and cutting unit setup
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license; CDL a plus
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Time management and ability to prioritize repairs
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Leadership and training mindset
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Work performed primarily in a maintenance shop and outdoor settings
  • Exposure to noise, grease, chemicals, and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, and tool use for extended periods

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair all golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, sprayers, and small engines
  • Establish and manage preventive maintenance programs for all equipment
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
  • Prioritize and schedule repairs to support daily and long-term maintenance needs
  • Communicate equipment status and repair timelines to the Superintendent
  • Ensure proper setup, sharpening, grinding, and adjustment of cutting units
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized maintenance shop
  • Train and assist staff on proper equipment operation and care
  • Manage parts inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships
  • Enforce safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment
  • Assist with equipment purchasing recommendations and evaluations
