About The Position

The Head Guard is responsible for overseeing daily operations during their assigned shift, ensuring efficient workflow, maintaining high standards of customer service, and leading a team. Additionally, this role includes facilitating regularly scheduled staff training sessions. Must demonstrate strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and sound decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment. The position requires the effective use of current certifications and qualifications to optimize the operation of all sites. The Head Lifeguard may also assist with pool operations and facility maintenance as needed. In the absence of the Reaney Pool Manager or when scheduled as the shift supervisor, the Head Lifeguard will act as the site manager.

Requirements

  • Current ARC Lifeguard Certification (or equivalent)
  • Current ARC Lifeguard Instructor Certification (or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire date)
  • Current ARC CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certification (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrate competency in written and oral communication
  • Minimum of 1-year Lifeguarding
  • Availability to be on call 2 days a week and availability to work 1 weekend day, must be available 3-4 week days from 12pm until 7pm.
  • Exhibits professionalism through competence, knowledge, conscientiousness, integrity, respect, emotional intelligence and appropriateness.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be available to work the following; Two on call days, One weekend and at least 3-4 days out of a week from 12pm until 7pm.
  • Prior experience of at least 1-year lifeguarding is required and 1-year swim instructing desired.

Responsibilities

  • Set the standard for professional lifeguarding, both on and off stand, and during patron/staff interactions.
  • Implement tasks delegated by Reaney Pool Manager related to operations and maintenance.
  • Perform basic facility maintenance as required.
  • Supervise staff during shifts, ensuring completion of daily tasks.
  • Provide leadership and manage conflict resolution among staff and patrons.
  • Communicate any staff or facility issues to Reaney Pool Manager.
  • Enforce professionalism and supervise staff behavior.
  • Assist Reaney Pool Manager with coordinating special events such as private rentals and seasonal activities.
  • Maintain professionalism when interacting with staff, management, and members.
  • Assume facility responsibilities in the absence of Reaney Pool Manager.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Rec1/Civic Rec and related administrative tasks, including memberships, customer service, and daily reports.
  • Ensure the safety of participants and staff within the facility.
  • Handle paperwork, scheduling, shift coverage, and discipline as assigned by Reaney Pool Manager.
  • Attend and contribute to management meetings.
  • Assist in facility operations, including staff training, cleaning, safety, customer service, and supervision, ensuring proactive and reactive management.
  • As shift supervisor, assign staff based on patron load and secure additional staffing when necessary.
  • Assist the cashier at the Information Desk when necessary.
