For 80 years, we have been one of upstate New York’s largest providers of programs and services for individuals who have disabilities. Many of the innovative programs and vital services that we offer are not available elsewhere. We are searching for a Head Lifeguard to join our agency! This position is based out of our offices at 314 South Manning Blvd in Albany, NY and reports directly to the Director of Aquatics and Wellness.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Qualified trainer of CPR Professional Rescuer and First Aid
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Pro-Rescuer and Standard First Aid
  • At least 1 year of job related experience, specifically working with people with developmental disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Survey people we support and staff engaging in aquatic activities while standing or sitting on pool deck, which includes lifeguard coverage both scheduled and on-call.
  • Develop, implement and instruct child/adult learn-to-swim programs which meet the needs of each consumer enrolled
  • Participate in the supervision/evaluation of lifeguard staff
  • Orient and instruct non-aquatic staff, who use pool, in waterfront safety techniques and policies
  • Maintain chemical balance in the pool specifically in accordance with NYS Department of Health Standards. Report any discrepancies to immediate supervisor.
  • Understand and practice infection control.
  • Assist clients in preparation for activities as needed, including transferring and putting on of floatation equipment, assisting in and out of pool
  • Organize pool area when multiple activities are occurring to avoid conflict and potential frustration of people we support
  • Clean/maintain pool deck sanitation as directed by Center protocol and in accordance with New York State Department of Health standards
  • Inspect all pool safety and mechanical equipment and report deficiencies to Director of Aquatics/Wellness.
  • Notify supervisor of incident and complete Incident Reports when necessary.
  • Participate in incident investigation and implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Participate in training and development activities in accordance with department and Agency policies
  • Adhere to standard safety practices, as well as job, department and Center policies and procedures related to safety
