About The Position

The Head Lifeguard at the City of Somerville is responsible for supervising lifeguards, monitoring pool activities, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Requirements

• 1-3 years of experience as a Lifeguard.
• American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard certification or similar.
• First Aid/AED certification.
• Knowledge of proper swimming techniques and water safety rules.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to provide lifesaving rescue and work professionally with the public.

Nice To Haves

• Multilingual skills in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian-Creole, Mandarin, and/or Nepali.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor activities at the pool area.
• Enforce pool regulations and water safety policies.
• Respond to emergencies and perform rescues as needed.
• Administer first aid and CPR when necessary.
• Inspect pool facilities and equipment for safety and usability.
• Assist in testing pool chemicals to maintain water quality.
• Create daily lifeguard rotation schedules.
• Conduct swimming lessons under the direction of the Pool Manager.
• Document all accidents and incidents and report them promptly.
