About The Position

Assure the safety of pool users by preventing and responding to emergencies and by on-site supervision of lifeguards and other on-duty staff. The Head Lifeguard shall also be responsible for maintaining a high standard of facility cleanliness and maintenance through completion of duties as assigned by the pool Manager/ Aquatics Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school education; or related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous lifeguard experience with thorough knowledge and skills of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions and memos.
  • Ability to write short correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training / First Aid / CPR-PR (May be obtained upon hire).
  • Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training Instructor preferred.
  • Mandated Trainings required, but may be obtained within 15 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
  • Complete all necessary records and reports.
  • Act as liaison between Recreation Coordinator and the Lifeguard staff.
  • Ensure that all staff members perform required duties, adhere to facility rules and standards, and maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Assist with training staff for all aspects of job responsibilities, review and evaluate staff performance, document concerns and submit documentation to the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Demonstrate effective public relation skills.
  • Open and close facility, including all pre-opening safety checks, proper care of register monies, back-up of patron tracking system, securing facility at closing.
  • Make daily safety/cleanliness inspection of pool facility.
  • Monitor all chemical readings and mechanical problems immediately.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of Activities.
  • Participate and assist with regular in-service training sessions.
  • Complete all additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
