About The Position

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for the overall leadership, vision, and performance of golf operations at Westlake Country Club, including the golf shop, tee sheet and play management, practice facilities, outside services, leagues, tournaments, and golf events. This position functions at a Director level, with accountability for strategic planning, operating and capital budgets, staff leadership, guest experience standards, and integration of golf operations with agronomy, food & beverage, marketing, and events. The Head Golf Professional leads the golf operations leadership team (which may include the Assistant Golf Professionals, Golf Shop leadership, Outside Services leadership, and Practice Range leadership) and works closely with the General Manager, Director of Agronomy, and Food & Beverage leadership to ensure the golf course, club amenities, and related services are guest-ready every day and aligned with Company performance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Sports Management, Hospitality, Professional Golf Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 7–10 years of progressive golf operations experience at an 18-hole or larger facility, with 3–5+ years in a manager or multi-unit leadership role.
  • Proven track record delivering a high-quality golfer and guest experience, including pace of play and successful events/programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and retain high-performing teams at both frontline and manager levels.
  • Strong experience managing operating budgets and contributing to capital planning, with consistent achievement of financial targets.
  • Advanced knowledge of golf rules, etiquette, handicaps, and club/daily-fee operations; PGA/LPGA membership or Associate status preferred.
  • Proficiency with golf software (tee sheet, POS, tournament management, reporting) and Microsoft Office; able to learn Company systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with guests, staff, ownership/clients, and Company support teams.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak seasonal demands.
  • Team-oriented leader with strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Model Company Mission and Core Values, setting expectations for service, safety, accountability, and teamwork across golf operations
  • Provide strategic leadership for all golf operations, including long-range planning for programs, rounds, revenue, and guest experience
  • Direct the golf operations leadership team in daily execution of tee sheet, check-in, starter/ranger, range, golf shop, and outside services
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for all golf operations areas (shop, carts, bag handling, range, dress code, pace of play, etiquette, and close-out)
  • Hire, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate golf operations leaders and staff, building a high-performing, service-focused team
  • Create and manage the golf operations operating budget; track results and adjust to improve efficiency, revenue, and profitability
  • Lead or support a multi-year capital plan for golf operations assets (cart fleet, range, on-course amenities, shop fixtures, and technology)
  • Direct the overall golf shop strategy, including merchandising, inventory levels, pricing, displays, and vendor relationships
  • Oversee design and delivery of tournaments, leagues, outings, clinics, and special events to drive play, loyalty, and guest satisfaction
  • Coordinate daily with the Director of Agronomy on course setup, cart policies, maintenance windows, and communication of course conditions
  • Ensure the cart fleet and outside services follow standards for safety, cleaning, maintenance, and staging
  • Position the practice range and practice areas as key revenue and experience drivers, with clear standards for layout, signage, and service
  • Ensure tee sheet, POS, and reporting systems are accurate, staff are trained, and data is used to manage rounds, revenue, and labor
  • Set and track KPIs (rounds, revenue/round, shop performance, pace of play, satisfaction, membership, and labor metrics) and act on results
  • Build strong relationships with members, regulars, leagues, outing organizers, and key community partners
  • Partner with Marketing/Business Development to promote golf programs, leagues, lessons, and events
  • Lead golf operations participation in safety and risk management, including cart safety, weather protocols, and incident reporting
  • Foster strong collaboration between golf operations and Agronomy, Food & Beverage, Events, Finance, HR, and Maintenance
  • Serve as an active member of the venue leadership team, including MOD coverage and major initiative support
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Manager
