About The Position

SHERIDAN SCHOOL DISTRICT HEAD COACH JOB DESCRIPTION TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 1. 240 day contract. 2. Salary based on the current district Licensed Salary Schedule and current Licensed Additional Duty Scale for the position. 3. FLSA status: Exempt. 4. 10 days vacation per year of employment. 5. 12 days of sick leave per year of employment. 6. 3 days personal leave per year. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Required): 1. Valid Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) teaching License as well as a valid coaching certification through the ADE or Arkansas Activities Association(AAA). 2. Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. 3. Coaching experience required. 4. Must be a visionary and innovative; be able to create short and long- range goals. 5. Must be attentive to details, a self-starter, able to work effectively without constant or direct supervision. Must be able to multi-task. Must be of good moral character and strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Hold a valid CDL or obtain a CDL within a reasonable length of time. Be an active member of the Arkansas Coaches Association and the National Federation of Coaches. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to): The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of their assigned sport. The coach must demonstrate strong leadership in player and staff development, sportsmanship, integrity and character development. Qualified candidates should: Demonstrate a successful background as a visionary leader who can motivate others from diverse backgrounds around a shared vision of their assigned sport. 2. Foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to perform at the highest level, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community. 3. Possess outstanding oral, written, and listening communication skills and conveys a positive presence among district and community patrons. 4. Exhibit strong moral and ethical values of honesty, integrity and humility. 5. Demonstrate a record as an innovative and successful evaluator with knowledge and experience in coaching their assigned sport and all other areas related to the operations of their assigned sport. 6. Be a person who is a highly visible, outgoing, and a respected leader in the schools and community with strong interpersonal skills that will engage/energize the students, athletes, staff, and community. 7. Be a person who has experienced success as a coach that will lead the Sheridan football program to high achievement. 8. Be a person who is a caring and mature professional that is confident, and has experience in conflict resolution. 9. Be a person who is family oriented with impeccable morals/integrity/character, and is passionate about building a successful program. Be a person who is a powerful motivator, who can retain athletes from one level of the program to the next, and can work with all grade levels. 11. Be a person who will support all other athletic programs in the Sheridan School District, and work to develop athletes for all programs. 12. Be a person of high expectation, and one who will expect all other coaches to have the same high standards. 13. Promote the safety and security of all Sheridan students. 14. Properly care for, organize, assign, clean, store, and inventory any uniforms and/or equipment related to the program. SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS and/or REQUIREMENTS: Physical Requirements : Must be physically able to sit, stand for prolonged periods, walk, climb stairs and/or ladders, occasionally stoop, lift objects that fall within the scope of job responsibility. Must be able to see up close and at a distance. Must have the dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job. Intelligence: Requires the ability to read and follow a variety of instructions on district and state websites as well as hard copy. Language Ability : Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences. Requires the ability to prepare reports, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of grammar. Verbal Aptitude : Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence. Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
