The Head Gardener position at Sunnyside Gardens is responsible for providing a full range of garden services to clients at their homes and serving customers in an accurate and friendly manner. Sunnyside Gardens Gardeners specialize in estate gardening and small residential gardening.

Requirements

  • Five (3) years of professional gardening experience.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of regional plants, common garden weeds, and plant pests.
  • Must have experience planting annual and tropical plants seasonally.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and up to date DOT card.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be friendly, possess a team mentality, and the ability to build rapport.
  • Must have the ability to perform physical labor, accept and adapt to change, be able to work in a fast-paced environment independently.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime with some holidays, and weekends. Additional hours may be needed in peak seasons.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain multiple client properties by performing gardening tasks and installing new plant material within the defined scope of work.
  • Lead gardener staff daily.
  • Prioritize projects for the day to best manage time and eliminate waste.
  • End each day with a clear vision of how to begin the next day.
  • Train gardener staff on the job with your experience at the forefront. Each gardener should learn from their lead. The goal would be to develop all gardeners to become Head Gardeners.
  • Monitor performance of staff as relates to your assigned projects. Communicate skill-related problems to General Manager and Human Resources.
  • Report tardy or absent staff to Human Resources.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork including daily work orders and planter assembly.
  • Act as onsite liaison for clients and give feedback on the performance of the clients garden beds.
  • Suggest additions and improvement opportunities to Sales staff.
  • Connect with clients on-site as prompted by the client or sales staff.
  • Properly keep and care for tools and equipment on-site or in the lead vehicle. Communicate needs to General Manager and Human Resources.
  • Keep safety equipment on-site or in the lead vehicle each day.
  • Assist other crews as needed and ask for assistance as needed.
  • Keep a watchful eye on labor hours and use adjacent gardening staff to best accomplish tasks.
  • Be supportive of the success of the company and crews.
  • Attend all meetings as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
