About The Position

The Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is seeking an energetic and responsible coach with a passion for working with children to join their Football League. This position involves motivating student athletes to develop an appreciation for the sport and coaching them in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. A primary function of this role is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.

Requirements

  • USA Football Certification.
  • CPR & AED Certification (First Aid not required).
  • Experience working with youth grades 3rd-8th.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
  • Knowledge of youth development strategies.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Boys & Girls Club or youth organization experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  • One film night per game week held in the Smilow-Burrough Clubhouse.
  • Assesses player's skills and assigns team positions.
  • Submits all practice plans for the week by Monday 4pm to JB via Email.
  • Attend all practice and be at practice site 15 minutes prior to practice starting.
  • Implements a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Works with the program director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of members behavior and always provides proper supervision of athletes.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
  • Schedule and must attend 2 parent interest/content meetings/Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models' sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with community partners.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, youth members, parents, and volunteers.
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
  • Experience working with young children, especially middle school students.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
