About The Position

The Head Custodian at Brandeis University is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of assigned campus facilities. This role involves a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks, ensuring that the environment is safe from hazards such as snow and ice, and that facilities are properly prepared for events and emergencies.

Requirements

• Ability to clean, strip, and polish building surfaces as directed.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and carry out simple oral and written instructions in English.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors and coworkers.
• Ability to work in an environment with frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to lift and move furniture, shovel snow, and remove trash weighing at least 30 pounds.
• Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
• Ability to follow through on assignments and solve problems.
• Ability to safeguard keys and manage supplies.
• Ability to coordinate custodial assignments and assess work quality.
• Ability to set up rooms for events and respond to emergencies.
• Knowledge of proper use of cleaning materials and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Receive and ship packages and luggage.
• Coordinate assignments of custodians and assess the quality and completion of their work.
• Set up rooms for conferences, lectures, and special events.
• Respond to and clean up after emergencies and disasters.
• Assist in the security of facilities by locking and unlocking doors.
• Train employees in the use of cleaning materials and equipment.
