About The Position

The Head Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach at Bard College is responsible for recruiting, instructing, and leading student-athletes while fostering a safe and equitable environment. This full-time position emphasizes the development of athletes of all experience levels and backgrounds, ensuring compliance with NCAA Division III regulations. The coach will manage a staff, oversee training and competition, and collaborate with various departments to support student-athletes academically and athletically.

Requirements

  • Experience as an athlete and/or coach is necessary.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel for competition, recruiting, and league meetings.
  • Interest in fostering an inclusive environment for students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, instructs, and leads student-athletes within the philosophy of the College and Athletic Department.
  • Creates and maintains an inclusive environment for all athletes to develop as runners.
  • Utilizes recruiting software and interacts with the Bard Admission office.
  • Hires and manages coaching staff for sprinters, throwers, and jumpers.
  • Assists student-athletes in navigating college life, including academic and social concerns.
  • Trains student-athletes for intercollegiate competition through practices and video review.
  • Attends all contests and manages the team on and off the field.
  • Ensures the safety and health of student-athletes in coordination with Athletic Trainers.
  • Supervises coaching staff on team matters and ensures compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Works with the Business Manager on the program's budget and expenses.
  • Supervises races and meets on campus, including annual events.
  • Maintains inventory of uniforms and equipment and monitors campus trails.
  • Assists in program risk management and policy making.
  • Creates and maintains recreational activities for students outside of varsity teams.
