About The Position

Do you love cooking for a crowd, leading a team, and creating meals that bring people together? YMCA Camp Abe Lincoln is looking for a Head Cook to oversee our food service operations during summer camp sessions (with occasional retreat opportunities year-round). This is your chance to make a difference in the lives of campers, staff, and guests by fueling their days with nutritious, delicious meals!

Requirements

  • Previous large-quantity cooking experience (camp, school, or institutional setting).
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and nutrition guidelines.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Safe Serve certification required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to cooking and serving.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends during camp sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and serve three daily meals plus snacks for 150+ campers, staff, and rental groups.
  • Create kid-friendly, balanced menus that accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies.
  • Order food and supplies, manage inventory, and stay within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with health department regulations and YMCA food safety standards.
  • Supervise, train, and schedule kitchen assistants, dishwashers, and volunteers.
  • Keep the kitchen, dining hall, and storage areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Collaborate with camp leadership on meal times, special events, and themed meals.
