About The Position

The Head Coach will provide comprehensive leadership and oversight of the high school boys basketball program. Responsibilities include designing and implementing a year-round plan for individual and team development, establishing a culture rooted in accountability and discipline, and mentoring student-athletes to excel both competitively and academically. The successful candidate will be committed to building a program that reflects integrity, sportsmanship, teamwork, and strong character. The Head Coach will lead all aspects of program organization, including staff supervision, practice planning, game preparation, and community engagement. The position requires attendance at all practices, games, and team-related events. The Head Coach reports directly to the Athletic Director and school administration. Additional responsibilities include coordinating schedules, practices, and contests in partnership with the Athletic Director and ensuring full compliance with all Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA), East Tennessee State University (ETSU), and Washington County policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and player development
  • Strong communication, leadership, and program alignment and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage all aspects of a program, including practices, games, and logistics such as scheduling and transportation
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Strong community engagement and relationship-building skills with parents, staff, and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and mentor student-athletes
  • Ability to manage all aspects of a program, including practices, games, and logistics such as scheduling and transportation
  • Knowledge of advanced offensive and defensive systems
  • Commitment to promoting sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and character development
  • Commitment to off-season, summer, and pre-season development
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous coaching experience at the high school, middle school, or competitive youth level

Nice To Haves

  • Previous head coaching experience at the high school level or above
  • Experience building and sustaining a competitive basketball program
  • Background in player development, including strength and conditioning
  • Experience organizing offseason programs, camps, and skill development opportunities
  • Familiarity with Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) rules and regulations
  • Experience with film breakdown and scouting/analytics tools (e.g., Hudl, stat-tracking software)
  • Proven track record of promoting academic success and character development among student-athletes
