About The Position

KIPP Public Schools Northern California is seeking a part-time, seasonal High School Softball Coach. The role involves planning, organizing, and directing the assigned team, ensuring that team rules and regulations are communicated and followed, and creating a safe environment conducive to learning. The coach will supervise athletes during practices and games, model good sportsmanship, and maintain appropriate conduct towards all stakeholders. The position requires flexibility, reliability, and strong communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and within a small team.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of High School or Club Softball coaching experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage.
  • Safe driving record (will be asked to provide a DMV report).
  • Ability to follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of KIPP San Jose Collegiate.
  • Familiarity with the rules and regulations of the sports assigned to coach.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, and community members.
  • Ability to manage a class in a professional manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively via email and phone.
  • Access to reliable transportation throughout the Bay Area.
  • Ability to coach athletes of different skill levels.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct the particular and assigned team.
  • Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
  • Ensure that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
  • Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the particular sports program.
  • Consult with the Athletic Director regarding off-season training programs.
  • Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Supervise athletes at all times during practices and games.
  • Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards the opposing team, fans, parents, officials, and spectators.

Benefits

  • $29 an hour for a projected 143 hour season.
