About The Position

Skidmore College’s Athletic, Fitness and Recreation Department invites applicants for a full-time, regular (10 month) Head Women’s Field Hockey Coach position. As an NCAA Division DIII institution competing in the Liberty League Conference, Skidmore College offers 19 varsity sports (9 for men and 10 for women). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coaching a competitive field hockey program with oversight for all aspects of the program such as scheduling, recruitment & retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, travel, fiscal planning, fundraising, etc. Supporting the mission and goals of the College and Department of Athletics, the head coach will conduct the program with the highest standards of professional conduct and good sportsmanship. Successful candidate must embrace the “student first” philosophy while promoting strong academic expectations and mentoring team members. Additionally, the successful candidate must be qualified to assume teaching duties within the Physical Activity Program (one credit courses) and/or home game management duties. The ability to interact comfortably with individuals and constituency groups (student-athletes, alumnae, coaches, parents, etc.) is crucial to the advancement of Athletics at Skidmore.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with a minimum of three years of collegiate (or equivalent) coaching experience (preference given to those with collegiate coaching experience)
  • Candidates must have strong organizational skills, communication and computer skills
  • A valid driver’s license and CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain) are required
  • The ability to work with Front Rush recruiting software, and the ability to create film sessions with both individuals and the full team

Responsibilities

  • Coaching responsibilities to include; instructing students on sports fundamentals, setting clear team goals and expectations, and providing feedback to students
  • Demonstrate teaching and coaching competencies with regards to skill instruction and tactical strategies
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan to include recruiting qualified collegiate student-athletes
  • Design and execute a competitive collegiate schedule
  • Oversee the management of team operating and fundraising budgets
  • Organize team travel arrangements including meals, hotels, and transportation
  • Participate in department wide and sport specific fundraising efforts
  • Provide leadership in the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes
  • Oversee assistant coaching staff
