About The Position

Role: Supports student-athlete academic success, recruits prospective student-athletes following the College’s mission and student-athlete recruitment procedures, and plans and directs the applicable sports program/athletic team. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Leads, organizes, and supervises all phases of the intercollegiate football program in accordance with College, NJCAA, and Region 19 rules and regulations. Recruits and retains qualified student-athletes, emphasizing academic success, personal development, and adherence to institutional standards. Develops practice and game plans, oversees skill development, conditioning, strategy, and performance evaluation. Mentors assistant coaches and support staff; ensures that all staff align with departmental policies and institutional expectations. Monitors academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes; implements appropriate interventions for academic support and retention. Models and promotes integrity, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and positive citizenship within the football program and across the department. Collaborates with the Athletic Trainer, Strength and Conditioning personnel, and other staff to ensure player safety, wellness, and physical readiness. Supports Athletic Director to manage football program budget, including procurement of equipment, uniforms, travel, and other operational needs. Maintains accurate inventory and oversees care, maintenance, and security of all football equipment and facilities. Coordinates the scheduling of practices, games, travel, and officials in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Athletics Administrator. Supports departmental marketing, fundraising, and public relations initiatives, including social media promotion and community engagement. Serves as the responsible party for the conduct and safety of student-athletes during all practices, competitions, and related activities. Promotes Salem Community College Athletics through attendance at college functions, media events, youth clinics, and community programs. Coordinates and operates camps and clinics to support youth football in Salem County. Participates in departmental meetings, compliance education, and professional development as assigned. Serves as a Gameday Manager at off-season athletic contests. Performs other duties as assigned. QualificationsKnowledge and Skills: Experience Playing and coaching designated sport at the collegiate level; Recruiting student athletes for college participation Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution Interpersonal Skills Good interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to communicate effectively with students, family members, faculty, staff, administrators and high school and college athletic staff. Technical Skills Working knowledge of current and emerging computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office products. Other Skills Knowledge of rules, strategies, and techniques of the applicable sport Knowledge of methods of physical conditioning Knowledge of any divisional regulations pertaining to the sport Knowledge of College, rules and regulations governing sports schedules and activities within and outside of College Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies required to provide facilities suitable for the applicable sport Ability to plan, organize and direct a sports program/athletic team Valid driver’s license is required. Physical Requirements The work is mostly sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Work Environment Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office and considerable time spent outdoors for applicable sport. Requirements

  • Experience Playing and coaching designated sport at the collegiate level
  • Recruiting student athletes for college participation
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, family members, faculty, staff, administrators and high school and college athletic staff.
  • Working knowledge of current and emerging computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of rules, strategies, and techniques of the applicable sport
  • Knowledge of methods of physical conditioning
  • Knowledge of any divisional regulations pertaining to the sport
  • Knowledge of College, rules and regulations governing sports schedules and activities within and outside of College
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies required to provide facilities suitable for the applicable sport

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
