About The Position

The Head Co-Ed Cross Country Coach for Middle School at Pittsburgh Public Schools is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and promoting all aspects of the middle school interscholastic athletic cross country program. This role involves teaching student-athletes the fundamentals of cross country, including skill development, team strategy, and sportsmanship. The coach is expected to plan and schedule conditioning activities that enhance the fitness levels necessary for both individual and team success. The position requires a commitment to long hours, including weekends, to ensure the program's success. The coach will work directly under the principals and collaborate with the faculty manager to ensure the program meets educational and athletic standards. In addition to teaching techniques and strategies, the coach must demonstrate the ability to assess the talents and abilities of team members accurately. They will also be responsible for promoting athletes to college recruiters and participating in recruitment programs. The coach must maintain uniforms, equipment, and school facilities, supervise practices and contests, and monitor team members' attendance, grades, and conduct. The role also includes conducting pre-season and post-season conditioning programs and responding to player injuries with appropriate first aid techniques. Other duties may be assigned by the principal as needed.
