About The Position

The Head Club Coach for Men’s Ice Hockey at High Point University plays a key leadership role in guiding and developing a competitive club hockey program aligned with the university’s vision, mission, and values. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Intercollegiate Club Sports, this position is responsible for leading, coordinating, and coaching the team while operating within an established budget. The coach fosters an environment that supports both athletic excellence and personal growth, encouraging student-athletes to thrive as competitors and engaged members of the university community. Additionally, the role contributes to a broader club sports program that promotes a passion for sport, and successful participation in local, state, and national competitions. First Aid/CPR/AED certification is recommended.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • Experience Coaching and developing athletes who have a range of skill levels, goals and abilities (including those with high performance goals and those who seek being a team member)
  • Certified as necessary
  • Valid First Aid certificate (minimum Basic First Aid with CPR C/AED)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Experience planning and implementing training plans and competition and selection protocols
  • Experience managing and coordinating an athletic program of some form
  • Demonstrated ability to coach sound techniques
  • Competent in current sports training technologies
  • Familiar with safety rules and procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and social media
  • Candidate must have the ability to work effectively and independently with students (with minimal supervision) in a dynamic and flexible environment.

Responsibilities

  • Club Program Management and Development Design and implement a wrestling program to develop athletes. This includes establishing goals, structure and direction for the program as a whole.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, supervise, and mentor the assistant coach to create an effective coaching staff.
  • Work with the Athletic Director to develop a 3-year program plan and implement.
  • Coaching and Athlete Development Coach all members of the HPU Club Ice Hockey Program for the Fall and Spring Semesters.
  • Establish consistent and transparent training plans and selection and athlete monitoring protocols while working with the assistant coach to refine and implement them.
  • Recruit athletes to the program.
  • Organize and maintain up to date registration, contact and medical information.
  • Arrange all aspects of wrestling matches and schedule with the Assistant AD
  • Communication In cooperation with the athletic department, maintain and disseminate information, including registration process and timelines (comprehensive of publicizing on Website and Social Media).
  • Ensure that the High Point University Vision, Mission, Values and Policies (especially with regard to safety and equipment) are understood and adhered to by all athletes and the assistant coach.
  • Equipment Inform Assistant Athletic Director of all equipment and other needs of the program.
  • Liaise with Assistant Athletic Director and assistant coach to ensure equipment is in working order.
