About The Position

The City of Lenexas Parks and Recreation Department is seeking dynamic leaders who love working with kids and inspiring fun, creativity, and learning to join our team as Head Camp Counselors for the summer of 2026. The Head Camp Counselor leads and oversees daily activities for campers of all ages and skill levels while creating a positive, engaging, and safe camp environment. This position provides direction to Camp Counselors, ensures high-quality program delivery, and supports the overall success of the camp experience.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and one year of job-related experience working with school-aged children.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment (City-provided training).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead children in a variety of recreational activities.
  • Foster healthy and positive relationships with children and youth.
  • Supervise and support Camp Counselors and campers throughout the day.
  • Communicate effectively with campers, staff, and parents.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all participants by following safety and emergency procedures.
  • Model professionalism and a positive attitude at all times.
  • Assist with participant check-in and check-out.
  • Maintain and clean program areas after use.
  • Support special events by hosting booths or leading activities.
  • Document and report incidents or concerns to camp directors.
