About The Position

This position provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Basketball program. This includes coaching the team, planning, organizing, and supervising team practices, and actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes. The role requires adherence to federal, state, and local guidelines, office/department, division, and college policies and procedures, as well as NCAA and athletic conference guidelines. The Head Basketball Coach reports to the director of athletics and collaborates with students, staff, officials, students and coaches from other institutions, parents, faculty, and both on and off-campus constituencies. Essential job functions involve coordinating all on and off-campus recruitment activities within NCAA guidelines, ensuring player safety and wellness in collaboration with Athletic Training staff, and complying with all relevant regulations. The coach provides leadership and coaching for the intercollegiate Basketball team, supervises assistant coaches, volunteers, and graduate assistants, and monitors and encourages participants' academic success and integrity. Responsibilities also include scheduling and attending all pre-season, in-season, and post-season practices, contests, and team events, coordinating special events, hosting college tournaments and camps, and managing administrative tasks such as recruiting contact data, enrollment benchmarks, and financial accountability. The coach may also teach within the Physical Education curriculum, prepare athletes for competition, perform post-season evaluations, oversee strength, conditioning, nutritional, and financial literacy support, and coordinate team travel arrangements, equipment care, and facility maintenance.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Minimum two years of work experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of fitness concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and rules and scoring.
  • Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Irregular hours are required on a regular basis.
  • Travel required from office to other locations on a regular basis.
  • Coaches must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA and the College with truthful and accurate information regarding rules violations.
  • Coaches may be suspended or terminated if found to be in deliberate or serious violation of NCAA regulations.
  • Coaches will be evaluated through an annual performance appraisal process and are expected to meet annual recruitment and enrollment goals.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all on and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA.
  • Ensures the safety and wellness of players and works collaboratively with the Athletic Training staff on effective and holistic preventative and responsive management of injuries.
  • Complies with all NCAA, Conference, college, department, state and federal regulations and policies and ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines.
  • Provides leadership and coaching for the intercollegiate Basketball team including the supervision of assistant coaches, volunteers and graduate assistants.
  • Monitors and actively encourages participants to succeed academically and represent the college with leadership and integrity, both on and off the court.
  • Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, post-season practices, contests, team contests.
  • Coordinates special events, hosts college tournament(s), and relevant camps.
  • Leads in administrative functions including weekly recruiting contact data, accountability for recruiting/enrollment benchmarks, financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC Basketball functions hosted by the coach/team/department.
  • Teaches within the Physical Education curriculum on areas of expertise and/or certification.
  • Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations.
  • Oversees strength, conditioning, and nutritional, and financial literacy support for Basketball.
  • Coordinates team travel arrangements including maintaining driver and van certification appropriate legal requirements to drive college vehicles.
  • Coordinates equipment including care of team uniforms, and care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment.
