Summary: The Internal Medicine/Geriatric Medicine Physician provides high-quality, patient-centered health care in alignment with the values of the community and the mission of Mount Desert Island Hospital Organization (MDIHO). The Physician delivers comprehensive primary care across all care settings—including office, hospital, nursing facility, and home-based environments—while ensuring continuity, safety, and compassionate service. Within the scope of a negotiated employment agreement, the Physician is responsible for conducting complete history and physical examinations; performing age-appropriate and condition-specific screenings; diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses; providing preventive care and patient/family education; coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams; and delivering telephone and electronic follow-up. The Physician will assess, stabilize, and manage urgent medical issues, ensuring safe transfer to higher levels of care when necessary. The Physician provides clinical supervision and backup support to advanced practice providers within the clinic and hospital settings, fostering a collaborative and effective care team environment. Expectations include adherence to organizational clinical standards, participation in quality and performance improvement initiatives, and engagement in practice operations in partnership with the Vice President of Physician Practice & Ancillary Services. This includes contributing to workflow optimization, panel management, access improvement, and the delivery of value-based, mission-driven care.
