About The Position

The Hazardous Materials Coordinator / ARFF Firefighter position is a critical role at Stennis International Airport, focusing on the management and coordination of hazardous materials in compliance with regulatory standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that hazardous waste generators meet all requirements related to product generation and storage. This includes performing satellite accumulation, waste accumulation, and preparing waste for pickup. The role requires current hazardous materials training, such as NFPA, HAZWOPPER, or equivalent certifications, to ensure safety and compliance in handling hazardous materials. In addition to hazardous materials management, the coordinator will support the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) capabilities at the airport. This position primarily operates Monday through Friday, with additional support required at the Stennis ARFF Fire Station as needed. The coordinator will utilize various computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Manager +, to maintain records and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for products used during production. They will also document facility inspections and hazardous materials tracking to ensure regulatory compliance. The role involves direct interaction with regulatory compliance inspectors during audits and supporting fire prevention efforts around the aircraft hangar facility. The coordinator will assist with loading and unloading hazardous materials shipments and may be required to backfill at the fire station, which operates on a 24-hour shift basis. Firefighter duties will also be part of the responsibilities, requiring good communication skills to convey pertinent information to management and maintain a neat and orderly work area.
