About The Position

Seeking to hire a Hazardous Material Specialist. Must be certified in Haz-mat. Only applicants with proof of certifications will be considered. The selected candidate will be responsible for interpreting applicable Hazardous Material regulations and requirements to determine proper classification of Hazardous Materials and requirements for compliance in packaging and shipping and may also include classification of HM, selection of containers and transport modes, determination of facility specific packaging and shipping requirements, preparations and approval of shipping papers, verifications of receiver eligibility, verifications of container certifications, certification of regulatory compliance, and release for transportation The responsibilities of this position include: Providing guidance and/or technical assistance to NGLi & GSA personnel for hazard classification of materials and waste (onsite transfers and offsite shipments of materials and waste) support. Classifying response and clean-up actions' Maintaining certified qualifications for authorizing the shipment of Hazardous Materials off site by all modes of transportation' Writing, performing and reviewing routine hazardous material shipping procedures to ensure compliance with Site requirements and 49 CFR; Providing guidance with the preparation of special instructions for non-routine material movements. Developing packaging and transportation procedures; performing engineering calculations, and implementing shipping and packaging requirements to meet federal, state and local laws and DOE orders Providing direction and expertise to lesser experience HMT specialists and managers. Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local hazardous materials standards and regulations such as DGR 1.5, 49 CFR, IMDG, IATA, DOT, EPA, DOE, DOD, NRC, RCRA Programs, HMT 370 Assuring that packaging and shipment of all hazardous and radioactive materials are performed in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations Evaluating hazardous materials packaging, transportations, handling, and associated activities for compliance and acceptability. Providing leadership to less experienced specialists and to customers (facility personnel) needing HMT service. Preparing and presenting reports to management on investigations and evaluations of hazardous materials incidents. Performing peer verification on hazardous materials offered for shipment. Ability to build a DG deck

Requirements

  • Must be certified in Haz-mat
  • HS (or Equivalent) + 2-3 yrs experience packing and shipping hazmat
  • In depth knowledge of site HazMat packaging and shipping practices and specific requirements
  • In depth working knowledge of federal, state, and local hazardous materials standards and regulations such as DGR 1.5, 49 CFR, IMDG, IATA, DOT, EPA, DOE, DOD, NRC, RCRA Programs, HMT 370
  • In-Depth knowledge of facility-specific packaging and transportation capabilities and requirements
  • Working knowledge of emergency response (E) procedures sufficient to prove appropriate guidance, section to ER Coordinators who are responsible for transportation incidents involving HM
  • Certification in all applicable domestic and internal packaging and shipping regulations for all types of hazardous materials, within IATA, DOT, IMDG, ICAO
