We are looking for a true renaissance reporter to drive audience for the Hattiesburg American. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both news and sports and have the ability to work on a variety of subjects from civic to business and high school and college sporting events. The person should be equally comfortable at a city council meeting or reporting on a new business development, or a Friday night high school or college football or baseball game. Hattiesburg is the fourth-largest market in Mississippi and is home to the University of Southern Mississippi and the growing William Carey University, which also features one of the state’s two medical schools. The candidate should live in the Hattiesburg area and highlight issues, new developments, key elections and what is happening on the high school and college sports scene. A diversity of interests and skills is a must. This person will also work alongside the staff of the Clarion Ledger and may at times travel anywhere in the state or region to assist with coverage. They will produce high-value digital content with visuals, including breaking news and enterprise stories that provide context and analysis. They will be aggressive on social media and create video and still photography to accompany their work.
